Suzette Cook, LCSW (NY)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
she/her
Hi! I’m Suzette. I’m a mixed race, Korean American licensed clinical social worker in private practice in Brooklyn, NY (unceded Lenape land).
I think the relationship between us is what matters most. My aspiration is to grow a relationship with my clients that can be a playground where we experiment with new ways of being and invite far flung parts of ourselves. I value embodied presence, emotional honesty, and attunement.
Many of my clients are sorting through complex traumas, severed attachment, and neglect and/or are parents who want to interrupt their traumatic legacies and do it differently. Some also experience an undercontrolled or overcontrolled relationship with their nourishment and their bodies. I am passionate about helping clients recover a firmer sense of self, expand the capacity to feel and heal old wounds, trust the body's intuition, and find an internal sense of safety. I'm also passionate about helping clients navigate freedom in their spirituality and faith outside of prescriptive moral binaries, conformity, homophobia + heteronormativity, and gender exclusion,
My lens anti-racist, anti-diet, anti-patriarchy, HAES informed. I believe marginalized voices deserve to be centered in the conversation to make changes in size-based social stratification and discrimination. In my couples and family work I work from an EFT frame which holds the client as the emotional bond between members, the work of Hedy Schlieffer, and other modalities. Individually I'm informed by relational psychodynamics, embodied IFS, and my life experience.
