I’m Isabel, LMSW (she/they). I am a queer, Black, biracial, femme therapist and movement teacher based out of Hudson, NY. I find my work gravitating toward the richness and complexity of our identities and how that impacts the ways in which we understand ourselves and the world. Our cultural experiences and how we identify are integral to who we are, and exploring such experiences is essential to the therapeutic process. I also believe that the body holds infinite wisdom and insight, and by slowing down and tuning in we can access a wealth of information that isn’t always available to us in the day to day.
I enjoy supporting adults and teens with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety and stress, relationships, trauma, grief and loss, sexuality, gender identity and cultural issues. I’ve been finding joy in the facilitation of groups for QTPOC and BIPOC folks around gender and sexuality, relationships, mindful movement, and creative writing.
I would describe my approach to therapy as eclectic. It is broadly psychodynamic and also highly relational and I use somatic lineages and social justice to inform my clinical practice. I believe that healing in community helps us to remember and recall collective knowledge that has been suppressed and forgotten due to systemic violence and oppression. I am passionate about community care, liberation, growth, joy, and healing.
I make time to cook delicious things, swim whenever possible, and take long walks with my dog, Sage. I find refuge in watching cartoons and following the Marvel universe. I am deeply inspired by queer feminist luminaries of past, present, future, such as Audre Lorde, bell hooks, Alice Walker, and Alexis Pauline Gumbs. I am embracing moving slower and becoming softer.
