Fertility, Queerness and Care Work

Fertility, Queerness and Care Work is a group facilitated by Avigail Hurvitz-Prinz, LCSW, for any mental health care worker who wants to ground in a rich understanding of how reproductive processes intensify our complex relationships to care work, both personal and professional.

This group is for anyone involved in a (in)fertility process: as a donor, a gestational or non-gestational parent, a person inducing lactation — any of the ways we involve our body minds in the processes of reproduction and cross-generational care in the processes of trying to conceive (TTC), pregnancy or postpartum.

This is a peer support process group for queers involved in fertility processes who are also therapists or careworkers.

Applications will be read on a rolling basis and and intake sessions for this group will take place in September and October. The group will begin on November 5, 2024.

Participation.

Participation in this group will include:

  • 2x 90-minute group sessions per month

  • A commitment of 6 months, with the option to continue, is required to participate

  • The group's enrollment will be capped at 8, and then stay closed, except when a member leaves/a new one joins. If we feel spacious, we can potentially add up to 10 people.

Schedule.

  • This group meets on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 12:00 - 1:30 Eastern

  • No sessions held in August (Summer Break) & December* (Winter Break)

    * With the exception of December 2024, during which 2 sessions will be held

Finances.

The group will have a monthly membership fee, with the understanding that participants may inevitably need to miss sessions due to the nature of the (in)fertility process.

The following payment structure is inspired by and borrowed from the model of Bayo Akomolafe’s class We Will Dance With Mountains: Into the Cracks and Skin and Spine with Joanna Hedva at Corporeal Writing. In an effort to reflect disparity in economic condition and access to wealth, the following payment system is designed for those with more wealth to help cover the costs of those with less access to wealth and resources. We trust your discernment of your current financial situation and how you fit into the global economic context.

As you decide what amount to pay, please consider your present-day financial situation governed by income, but also the following factors: historical discrimination faced by your peoples; your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (retirement, savings, investments, expectation of an inheritance; how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your community, country, and world); people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members; the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world); your relationship to food & resource scarcity.

$200/mo Solidarity

$150/mo True Value

$100/mo Community Care

Please note:

The KTC Fertility, Queerness and Care Work Group is a peer support process group and not clinical supervision or group therapy.

You can contact Avigail with questions about the group via email. Applications will be read on a rolling basis with a focus on maintaining an intimate, generative environment.
