Meet Essie

Essie Shachar-Hill, LCSW (IL)

they/them

Essie Shachar-Hill, LCSW (they/them) is a psychotherapist, group facilitator, and educator based in Chicago, Illinois. Currently in private practice, they are honored to partner with clients in exploring and healing their inner and outer worlds. Essie works from an anti-oppressive, psychodynamic, and attachment-oriented framework with teens and adults, most of whom are multiply marginalized in their gender, sexuality, race, neurotype, relationship orientation, and/or [dis]ability. As a trained social worker, they understand that individuals are deeply impacted by intersecting systems of oppression. Essie supports clients in navigating oppressive systems and experiences in their everyday lives, as well as in their personal and ancestral pasts. As many marginalized communities have been (and continue to be) disenfranchised and mistreated by the mental health field, Essie is committed to addressing power dynamics in the therapy room and working toward more just and equitable methods of change. Outside of the therapy room, Essie also trains mental health clinicians on affirmative care for those living at the margins. Read more or contact Essie at their website, essie-lcsw.com.
