Meet Christine
Christine Rowghani, LMSW (NY)
she/they
I am a queer, mixed race, Japanese American, Iranian American femme who practices as a psychotherapist in Brooklyn, New York on unceded Munsee Lenape and Canarsie land. I came to this line of work following my own transformative experiences in therapy as well as encounters with racism, queerphobia, and relational trauma and a concurrent desire to make sense of and tend to these experiences. My interest in the connections between and amongst the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and sociopolitical, as well as the multifaceted relationship between mind and body, led me to pursue social work as well as train as a yoga teacher, seek further training in psychodynamic, relational, and experiential modalities, and ground myself in anti-oppressive praxis.
I take special interest in working with queer and trans folks, BIPOC, emerging adults, and first- and second-generation individuals. An ongoing interrogation of white supremacy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, and colonialism informs my stance, as does my commitment to my own continuing education and healing processes. As a therapist, I strive to center warmth, humility, and curiosity in my work with my patients. Together, we might examine the impact that prior and ongoing experiences and relationships have on your current life, notice and shift patterns that get in the way of living the life you want, learn from the dynamics that emerge in our work, gently observe and be with feelings and sensations that come up during our sessions, and practice strategies and skills to cultivate clarity, self-compassion, and empowerment. I am honored to do this work and strongly believe in each person’s capacity for healing and the power of deepening our relationships to ourselves and each other as a means by which to facilitate that healing.
Lastly, my time working in residential treatment, school-based settings, hospital settings, and community mental health, as well as all I have learned and continue to learn from my past and present patients, shapes my approach and relationship to this role. I am not in private practice at this time and will update this page with contact information should this change.
