Amanda Colón, LCSW (PA)
they/them
I am a queer non-binary Puerto Rican person and clinical social worker based in Philadelphia, PA. My family moved often when I was young, though I feel most connected to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am a fiber artist and a musician with a special love for Spanish folk music from the 60s and 70s.
I have lived and worked in several countries in Latin America over the past decade as a coordinator for bilingual education and youth development programs. Supporting young people navigating traumatic experiences inspired me to pursue a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania. As a therapist, I have experience working with first- and second-generation Americans, folks who are undocumented, and people who have experienced violence or lost someone to violence. Currently, I provide therapy to students at the University of Pennsylvania and run a private practice.
I am focused on the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle to increasing self-awareness and to healing through connection. As a trauma-informed clinician, I prioritize, safety, choice and collaboration in our work together. I approach therapy through an anti-oppressive and decolonial lens. I consider how a person’s larger context -their history, their community, their family, socio-political systems and culture- interact with a client’s multiple, intersecting identities.
I am also passionate about plant-medicine and my work is influenced by psychedelic therapy’s emphasis on the inner healing intelligence innate to all people. I have completed the MAPS MDMA Therapy Training program and am in the initial stages of training to provide ketamine-assisted therapy.
I intend therapy to be an affirming, healing and celebratory space. For more information about me and my practice, you can visit my website at amandacolon.com.
