My name is Akilah and I am a Black/mixed race/genderfluid/queer/nondisabled therapist living on unceded Munsee Lenape, Schaghticoke, and Mohican land. I work with folks virtually across NY, CT, and NJ in my private practice which centers the needs of QTBIPOC folks. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck despite having a lot of insight into their trauma, depression, disordered eating, and/or anxiety. I works with folks feeling stuck to facilitate change from a trauma-informed, evidence-based, anti-oppressive framework. I am especially committed to serving the QTBIPOC community and love working with people who are grappling with what healing and wellness mean in a world where trauma and oppression are ongoing.
I am a Certified Body Trust® provider who is also trained in EMDR (a therapy that can reduce the impact of trauma symptoms). I use these trainings and a variety of therapeutic techniques to help people move toward more connection, rootedness, and peace in life. As a Body Trust® provider, I love working with people on improving their relationship to food and their body with size equity and inclusivity in mind. I am attuned to how identity shapes our experience, including the conversation that unfolds in therapy, and I’m dedicated to exploring this with clients. Outside of private practice, I enjoy cooking, reading fiction, being in nature, and if we’re being real, reality tv.
I schedule free 20 minute consultations with anyone interested in beginning therapy with me. Please feel free to reach me at akilah@akilahsigler.com or visit my website at www.akilahsigler.com .
